Eu3+ luminescence for several excitation energies in off resonance con
ditions has been studied. Raman phonons and Raman crystal field transi
tions are also obtained. The reflectance between 1.25 and 3.7 eV shows
the D-5 and upper multiplets up to 27 000 cm(-1). There are two Eu si
tes with a maximum level energy difference of 19 cm(-1) at RT. We pres
ent most of the CF levels for F-7(J)(J = 0-4) and D-5(J). The analysis
of the relative intensities of the phonons and luminescence peaks as
a function of the excitation energy and the temperature indicates that
complex processes are happening in the excitation and that the lattic
e phonons have a determining role in Eu luminescence.
