In this paper we present a theoretical study of X- in an infinite rect
angular quantum well with a strong magnetic field perpendicular to the
well layer. Using a variational calculation, we have calculated the b
inding energies of X- (the energy required to remove one of the two el
ectrons from X- to infinity), as functions of the ratio of the electro
n conduction band mass to the hole valence band mass, sigma = m(e)/m(h
). The results in the two-dimensional and three-dimensional limits agr
ee with the theoretical results obtained by other authors.
