Abstract
Two series of lanthanide compounds with DL-(I) and L-alpha-alaninehydr oxamic acid (II); [Ln(DL-alpha-C3H8N2O2)(H2O)(6)](2)(CIO4)(6)(I), [Ln( L-alpha-C3H9N2O2)(H2O)(6)](2)(CIO4)(8) (II), were synthesised and stud ied by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Well-resolved absorption, opt ical emission and excitation spectra down to 4 K are reported. Radiati ve and nonradiative processes are analysed and compared to structural data. Particular attention is paid to the effect of ligand chirality a nd to explain how the dimer nature of active species affects its spect roscopic properties.
