Abstract
The luminescence properties of Pb2+ in alkaline-earth fluorohalides ha ve been studied and were found to originate from two types of excited state. Next to a normal ultraviolet emission (P-3(0,1) --> S-1(0)) a v isible emission was found and ascribed to a transition from a higher l evel, probably of charge-transfer nature (D transition).
