The influence of stoichiometric deviations and Sn (IV) or K doping on
the optical properties of cc-mercuric iodide have been investigated. I
n defect samples, a decrease in the energy gap is observed. Photolumin
escence was performed as a function of temperature while samples were
under uniaxial pressure. Differences between doped, non-stoichiometric
and 'pure' samples are observed for the luminescent emission position
and intensity.
