Abstract
An energy-dependent loss parameter, K(E), is calculated from a model d ielectric response function. The rapid variation of K(E) suggests defi nition of an effective threshold displacement, Delta E, appreciable fo r semiconductors but negligible for insulators. The model is applied b oth to scintillator efficiency and to multi-photon phosphors.
