The phase increment of magnetostatic surface waves (MSSWs) is calculated in
ferrite-metal (FM) film structures magnetized by a billow-type nonuniform
field. It is shown that the phase increment of MSSWs propagating in a guidi
ng channel at both of whose boundaries the wave changes its direction of pr
opagation has the same order of magnitude as the phase increment of MSSWs p
ropagating in a ferrite-metal film structures magnetized by a linearly nonu
niform field and a valley-type field. It is found that, unlike the waves pr
opagating in a linearly nonuniform field and a valley-type field, the phase
increment of waves propagating in a billow-type nonuniform field decreases
when the wave frequency increases. It is demonstrated that the MSSWs propa
gating in ferrite-metal film structures magnetized by a billow-type nonunif
orm field can be used in the design of microwave phase shifters.
