M. Lal et H. Harasawa, Comparison of the present-day climate simulation over Asia in selected coupled atmosphere-ocean global climate models, J METEO JPN, 78(6), 2000, pp. 871-879
This paper summarizes the findings of an analysis undertaken to evaluate th
e performance of a range of A-O GCMs in terms of the simulation of broad sc
ale patterns of present-day climatology over Asia, and its six sub-regions.
The outputs generated in transient control and anomaly experiments with th
e seven A-O GCMs compiled at the Data Distribution Centres in Hamburg and N
orwich (set up by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) have been
used in this study. The study suggests that the HadCM2, the ECHAM4, the CSI
RO and the CCSR models exhibit some skill in reproducing the observed prese
nt-day surface climatic elements over the Asian continent. However, most A-
O GCMs considered here have limitations in the simulation of present-day re
gional climatology.
