Three kinds of additives were added into Ca alpha -sialon. (Ca0.6Si10.2Al1.
8O0.6N15.4). It was found that the additives resulted in more of the liquid
phase during sintering. which promoted the completion of the alpha --> alp
ha' transformation and the development of the elongated morphology characte
ristic of alpha -sialon grains. Comparison was made concerning the effect o
f the amount and type of additives on the microstructural development of Ca
alpha -sialon. Phase and property analysis was also carried out on the hot
