Unusual before AIDS epidemic, non tuberculosis mycobacterial infection s were observed in HIV-infected patients with CD4 cells count less tha n 75/mm(3). Primary prophylaxis with rifabutin, clarithromycin or azyt hromycin may be used. Secondary prophylaxis are necessary with associa tion of two or three drugs among clarithromycin, azythromycin, ethambu tol and rifabutin. In immunocompromised patients, without HIV infectio n, risk of disseminated infection seems lower, but no study evaluate i t.
