Abstract
In this paper, we introduce a procedure aimed at measuring the position of charge releasing events within a segmented HPGe gamma -ray detector. The pr oposed method is able to easily discriminate multiple events occurring clos e in space, even within the same segment. This is crucial in most applicati ons. Limiting factors for the procedure, such as electronic noise and the fi nite bandwidth of the preamplifier are also considered, their effects model ed and taken into account. The algorithm is not computation intensive and i t is meant for real time operation on a simple dedicated hardware. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
