Abstract
Intraband crosstalk induced by back reflections, mainly Rayleigh backscatte ring is experimentally and theoretically studied in a bidirectional system using the same wavelength. Assuming that 1.0 dB of power penalty is an acce ptable design criterion, the distance between the adjacent nodes is limited to be 40 km. The derived crosstalk penalties are in excellent agreement wi th those obtained from experiments. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
