The production of antihydrogen atoms (H) over bar(0)=(p) over bar e(+)
has been observed by the PS210 collaboration at LEAR. The method assu
mes an e(+)e(-)-pair creation via the two-photon mechanism in the anti
proton-nucleus interaction. Neutral (H) over bar(0) atoms are identifi
ed by a unique sequence of characteristics. The typical signature of e
leven produced antihydrogen atoms is reported including possibly 2+/-1
background signals. The observed yield agrees with theoretical predic
tions.
