Cu(II) complexes with tributyl phosphite and aliphatic perfluorinated carbo
xylates [Cu{P(OBu)(3)}(mu -OH)(mu -RCOO)](n), where R = CF3, C2F5, C3F7, C6
F13, C7F15, were obtained and their spectroscopic (UV-VIS, EPR, MS, IR) and
thermal properties were studied. Mass spectra were in favour of the bridgi
ng coordination carboxylates and monodentate phosphite and suggest a polyme
ric structure. EPR spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements indicat
e the formation of pentacoordinated Cu(II) in polymeric complexes. Examinat
ion of COO absorption bands suggests bridging carboxylates as well as a hyd
roxo group, whereas tributyl phosphite is monodentately bonded. Thermal dec
omposition is a multistage process, which in nitrogen and air yields a mixt
ure of Cu2O and Cu2P2O7.
