The formation of segments with increasing pH in descending internal pH prof
iles at certain compositions of the starting solution and the eluent was pr
edicted theoretically and supported experimentally. Equations for calculati
ng the degree of protonation of Lire anion-exchange sorbent as a function o
f the parameters of the system were inferred. A combined effect of the ioni
c strength of the mobile phase anti the presence of a weak base on the pH p
rofile were consider-ed. It was demonstrated that an optimal choice of the
ionic strengths of the starting solution and the eluent make it possible to
obtain practically linear pH profiles tip to pH 2.0 with the use of st sim
ple eluent.
