Abstract
Six new 2- and 8-trifluoromethyl- and 2,8-bis(trifluoromethyl)quinolin-4-yl ketones were synthesised and evaluated for in vitro antimalarial activity. The ketones were prepared by condensation of the corresponding quinoline-4 -carboxylic acids with pyrimidin-5-yllithium or [(1-ethyl-5-nitro-1H-imidaz ol-4-yl)methyl]lithium. The new compounds showed slight in vitro antimalari al activity against the chloroquine-sensitive strain of Plasmodium falcipar um.
