The photo-induced alignment properties of liquid crystals (LCs) on the poly
imide films containing fluorine group were investigated. Pretilt angles inc
reased with UV exposure time, hut azimuthal anchoring energies and order pa
rameters initially increased with UV exposure time and showed maximum value
s at a certain UV exposure time. The optical retardations of polyimide film
s suggest that the LC ordering depends on the pretilt angle of the LC cell.
