A calorimetric method has been used to study the metabolism of T. pyriformi
s in the presence of some surfactants. Owing to the presence of these surfa
ctants, the heat produced by T. pyriformis is reduced. These surfactants th
erefore have a negative influence on this microorganism. The pure surfactan
ts and their mixtures show an identical influence on the heat produced. The
advantage of the calorimetric method is the possibility of measuring colou
red and inhomogeneous solutions as well.
