Jp. Hebrard, Grimmia nutans Bruch in southern France and Grimmia elatior Bruch ex Bals.& de Not., respectively new to the bryoflora of western Europe and Corsica., BOT HELV, 110(2), 2000, pp. 115-124
Discovery of Grimmia mutans on the northern border of the Maures massif (de
partment Var) and in one locality of the Alpes-Maritimes. In south-eastern
France, this rare species which is new to the bryoflora of western Europe i
s constantly associated with Grimmia lisae de Not. and Bryum gemmiparum de
Not. This new syntaxon of the Grimmienion commutatae Marstaller 1982 is ric
h in mediterranean mosses (in a broad sense). It is found at low elevations
in habitats where humidity remains at a high level outside the dry season.
Thus, the association occurs along the path of running water on rock faces
or tabular surfaces of siliceous sandstone (arkose) or andesite. The sandy
sediment which accumulates below the mosses is rather acid (pH 5.3 - 6.5)
and very poor in organic matter and exchangeable cations. Finally, Grimmia
clatior, which is new to the Corsican bryoflora, was collected from the gra
nite blocks of a scree with a northern aspect, in the Restonica a valley.
