It has been shown in this paper that spectropolarimetric methods may be use
d to reveal the effects related to a weak magnetic field, which makes it po
ssible to adapt these methods to magnetic field measurements in the upper a
tmosphere of the Earth and other space bodies. A technique was proposed tha
t makes it possible to perform continuous observations of the transverse (r
elative to the direction of the main geomagnetic field) magnetic field inte
nsity and, thereby, of field aligned current intensities using data on the
auroral emission polarization.
