A new 3D structure is reported with bridging ligands and anions of formula
[Cu(pm)(A)(2)](n) (CH3CN)(n) (where pm = pyrimidine, A = dicyanamide) toget
her with its spectroscopic and magnetic properties. The 3D structure is bui
lt from independent chains in three directions using bridging pm ligands [C
u-Cu distance of 5.828(1) Angstrom] and bridging A ligands [Cu-Cu distance
of 7.841(1) Angstrom]. The centrosymmetric CuN6 chromophore is an axially e
longated octahedron which has Cu-N distances varying from 1.983(2) to 2.404
(2) Angstrom. The holes in the lattice are filled with acetonitrile molecul
es. No significant magnetic coupling between the Cu(II) ions is observed do
