A numerical method for solving the second boundary value problem of elastic
ity for solids with cracks is developed. The method is based on a class of
Gaussian approximating functions that drastically simplify the construction
of the matrix of the linear algebraic system of the discretized problem. T
he results of the application of the method to 2D-problems of elasticity ar
e compared with exact and numerical solutions existing in the literature.
