The characteristics of double-diffusive convection are investigated in an i
nitially quiescent, thermally stratified horizontal porous layer. By consid
ering Soret effects, a new predictive model for the ionic mass transport co
rrelation is developed in a Darcy-extended porous layer by extending the mi
cro-turbulence model. These theoretical results are compared with the exper
imental results of ionic mass transfer in an electrolyte-saturated porous l
ayer with both electrostatic fields and temperature stratification. It is o
bserved that the present correlation of the Sherwood number represents the
experimental results very well.
