Abstract
This multi-institution, longitudinal study investigated relationships betwe en various experiences in the second and third years of college and student s' openness to diversity as well as challenges to their beliefs and attitud es. The strongest positive influences on openness to diversity and challeng e were precollege openness to diversity, student perceptions of a nondiscri minatory racial environment in the institution, and diversity of student ac quaintances.
