The paper concerns an n-degree of freedom damped vibrating system consistin
g of n - 1 masses connected in parallel, by springs and dampers, to an nth
mass. The paper analyzes the construction of such a system from the given c
omplex eigenvalue data. The analysis has two parts: the establishment of th
e conditions on the eigenvalues which ensure that they correspond to an act
ual system; the derivation of the system parameters from the eigenvalues. (
