Proarrhythmia is defined as the aggravation of an existing arrhythmia or th
e development of a new arrhythmia secondary to antiarrhythmic drug. Proarrh
ythmic events include drug-induced bradyarrhythmias, atrial and ventricular
proarrhythmias. New onset sustained or incessant ventricular tachycardia a
nd torsade de pointes can be life threatening. This article reviews the inc
idence, aggravating factors, and treatment of proarrhythmia.
