The low-energy level structure of Cr-58 hag been studied following the beta
decay of V-58. This parent nuclide, along with eight additional neutron-ri
ch nuclei, was produced by projectile fragmentation of a Zn-70 beam and imp
lanted into a double-sided silicon strip detector (DSSD). Implants were ide
ntified based on DeltaE-TOF information and correlated to beta decays in th
e DSSD. Beta-delayed gamma rays were monitored by an array of three Ge clov
er detectors and two high purity Ge detectors. The results from these obser
vations will be discussed in light of the development of quadrupole collect
ivity in the even-even chromium isotopes toward the N = 40 subshell closure
.
