Theoretical approaches to deformed proton emitters are briefly reviewed. Th
e newly developed non-adiabatic method based on the coupled-channel Schrodi
nger equation with Gamow states is used to study the competition between pr
oton emission and rotation. Calculations are performed for several experime
ntally seen, non-spherical nuclei beyond the proton dripline. By comparing
theory and experiment, we are able to characterize the angular momentum con
tent of the observed narrow resonance.
