Abstract
Life in nuclear "terra incognita" is different from that around the stabili ty line; the promised access to completely new combinations of proton and n eutron numbers offers prospects for new structural phenomena. The main obje ctive of this presentation is to discuss some of the challenges and opportu nities for nuclear structure research with radioactive nuclear beams.
