STRUCTURE OF THE O-SPECIFIC POLYSACCHARIDE OF THE BACTERIUM PROVIDENCIA-ALCALIFACIENS-O23 CONTAINING A NOVEL COMPONENT - AN AMIDE OF D-GLUCURONIC ACID WITH N-EPSILON-(1-CARBOXYETHYL)LYSINE
Na. Kocharova et al., STRUCTURE OF THE O-SPECIFIC POLYSACCHARIDE OF THE BACTERIUM PROVIDENCIA-ALCALIFACIENS-O23 CONTAINING A NOVEL COMPONENT - AN AMIDE OF D-GLUCURONIC ACID WITH N-EPSILON-(1-CARBOXYETHYL)LYSINE, Biochemistry, 62(5), 1997, pp. 501-508
An acidic O-specific polysaccharide was obtained by mild acid degradat
ion of the lipopolysaccharide of the bacterium Providencia alcalifacie
ns O23 and found to contain D-glucose, D-galactose, 2-acetamido-2-deox
y-D-galactose, and on-(1-carboxyethyl)-N-alpha-(D-glucuronoyl)lysine.
On the basis of full and partial acid hydrolyses, selective solvolysis
with anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, and H-1- and C-13-NMR spectroscopy,
including two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (COSY), H-detected
heteronuclear H-1, C-13 multi-quantum coherence (HMQC), and rotating-
frame nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy (ROESY), the following st
ructure of the liner tetrasaccharide repeating unit of the polysacchar
ide was established: [GRAPHICS] CS]
