Abstract
Quantum-mechanical calculations suggest that silenes are probably not invol ved as intermediates in the reaction of the trichlorovinylsilane/t-BuLi rea gent with alkynes. Instead, the product 7 is obtained via a carbometalation -elimination reaction.
