Synthesis of the 2-[4-(p-tolylazo)-phenoxymethyl] benzoic acid and of somepotentially biologically active amides

2-[4-(p-Tolilazo)phenoximethyl]benzoic acid (3) was synthetised and his chl oride was condensed with various primary and secondary amines. The visible spectrum of 3 in acid and alcaline solution is interpreted on the basis tha t this con,pound exists in 3 tautomeric equilibrum of the thype azo --> hyd razone. The structures of the new compounds were characterised by elemental analyses, IR and mass-spectrometry.
