The Hierarchical INTerpolation (HINT) algorithm provides an interpolated-py
ramid data structure that is truly lossless and non-redundant for progressi
ve image transmission. By splitting the interpolation into two directional
stages, the so-called interleaved HINT (IHINT) is developed to further redu
ce the resulting entropy. In this paper, we introduce a new IHINT algorithm
based on the quincunx sub-sampling grid, in which the diagonal interpolati
on is done first. We equip this algorithm with two novel interpolators that
are based on some FIR-median hybrid filters. Simulation results consistent
