Abstract
Our goal in developing a model of Affective Social Competence (ASC) was to provide an organizing framework for research and theory across several doma ins. Therefore, we focused on a wide range of competencies that are dynamic ally interrelated and embedded within interaction. We hope that our model a nd many of our testable ideas about affective social competence will help t o generate new and integrative theorizing and research. We thank Eisenberg and Saarni for their positive reactions to our model and for highlighting s ome of its strengths. We were delighted and stimulated by their variations on and additions to our theme, and we address these below.
