A convenient field method of tissue preservation for flow cytometric ploidy assessment of grass carp

We developed modified procedures for the field collection and preservation of blood and tissue samples from grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella for flo w cytometric ploidy analysis. The components used are stable at room temper ature and portable, so that they may be incorporated into a field kit. The procedures facilitated field collection and preservation of tissue, and acc ommodated accurate ploidy analysis up to 1 month following collection. The techniques will be useful in remote locations, where access to refrigeratio n and a Row cytometer is not available.
