Abstract
We investigate surface-emitting second harmonic generation as a powerful te chnique for the evaluation of birefringence in optical waveguides supportin g several modes. This one-shot diagnostic is demonstrated at 1319 nm in mul tilayer AlGaAs waveguides, before and after the lateral oxidation of AlAs l ayers. (C) 2001 American Institute of Physics.
