A two-dimensional model of catalytic fixed-bed reactor located in a furnace
chamber is developed and implemented for steam reforming of methane into s
ynthesis gas. Partial differential equations describing conservation laws f
or mass, energy and radiation are solved, and compared to experimental valu
es. Two concepts of steam reforming with different configuration of the fur
nace chamber is evaluated. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserv
