Abstract
This study examined the effect of 0.05 mg norgestrel + 0.01 ethinyl estradi ol (NEE) Kg . body wt(-1) on body weight, random blood glucose, glycosylate d hemoglobin, and plasma insulin levels in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Weight loss, blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, and plasma insul in values of rats treated with NEE before and after the onset of diabetes w ere not significantly different from that of untreated diabetic rats. In co nclusion, oral administration of these contraceptive steroid hormones does not significantly alter the metabolic parameters of diabetic rats. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Inc. All rights reserved.
