Abstract
An enriched alkaloidal fraction from harmal seeds was prepared as iodi de derivative, and fractionated by preparative TLC. Three compounds we re obtained: harmine, harmaline and harmalol. The biological activity of the iodide derivative and the three compounds were assessed on the cotton leaf worm. Correlation between the biological activity and chem ical structure was postulated.
