In this article we present a modified version of the time-domain disto
rted Born iterative method (TDDBIM), based on the frequency-compensati
ng technique (FCT), for the reconstruction of lossy dielectric objects
. The FCT is applied to improve the ill-posed characteristics of the i
nverse problems and to speed up the convergence of the TDDBIM. Numeric
al results for the reconstruction of two-dimensional lossy objects sho
w that the algorithm is very effective in improving the rate of conver
gence of the TDDBIM. Furthermore, the modified algorithm performs well
even in the presence of a 20-dB signal-to-noise ratio and does not im
