Abstract
Six polycomponent complexes of lanthanides have been prepared by template r eaction of o-phenylenediamine with benzoylacetone in the presence of lantha nide chlorides and conc. HCl in anhydrous ethanol solution. They have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV, MS, molar and solid state cond uctivity data. The measured results show that o-phenylenediamine is partial ly condensed with benzoylacetone, forming an open-ring compound di-o-phenyl enediaminebenzoylacetonediimi(L); the L and the uncondensed o-phenylenediam ine(L'.) are both coordinated with lanthanide, forming mixed-ligand type of complexes. The formula of the complexes is LLnL'Cl-3. .nH(2)O, where Ln=Gd , Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm; n=0-6.
