The purpose of this article is to analyse, via the cross-cultural literatur
e, some of the interactions from a hi-cultural Angle-Russian project, and t
o use this analysis to aid cross-cultural understandings in future projects
. The paper takes the form of a short description of the project and the re
search, followed by a sketch of the Russian socio-educational context in wh
ich the project took place, and then the cultural challenges that we encoun
tered, together with an interpretation by reference to cross-cultural theor
y. The conclusion tentatively offers some generalisable factors that may he
lp future Angle-Russian joint ventures. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All
