Abstract
Recent concerns for the nation's environmental resources have rekindle d interest in clean-burning alternative fuels. Current efforts toward environmental conservation have been directed toward trucking fleets b ecause these fleets usually refuel at centralized locations. To assess interest and the future adoption of alternative fuels, a mail questio nnaire was sent to 537 trucking firms. The questionnaire was designed to collect three types of information: perceptions of the most viable alternative fuel; attributes or characteristics of alternative fuels t hat would motivate a conversion decision; and expectations regarding l egislative changes or future enforcement of current policies.
