The criterion validity of the factor index scores of the third edition
of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-III) was evalua
ted in a sample of 88 children with traumatic head injury (THI). Only
Perceptual Organization and Processing Speed scores demonstrated accep
table sensitivity to injury severity. It is concluded that Processing
Speed is an adequate measure of performance efficiency, but that Freed
om from Distractibility may not be an adequate measure of attention in
children with THI.
