Based on an analysis of the results of rocket studies of the temperature of
the mesosphere and the lower thermosphere at the Norwegian rocket range An
doya (69 degrees N), it can be assumed that UV solar radiation in the 100-2
50-nm range affects the temperature of the mesopause. This has made it poss
ible to develop a representation of the seasonal dependence of the mesopaus
e temperature for other regions and to refine the humidity levels of the me
sopause and the climatology of noctilucent clouds. (C) 2001 The Optical Soc
