Abstract
The paper addresses the squeezing of a viscous fluid into a porous surface to represent the Depression of an ink dot into paper The model has been imp lemented numerically using the finite element method When compared with obs ervations reported in the literature, the model is shown to be capable of r epresenting the effects of process parameters including pressure, viscosity and ink film thickness on the penetration of the printing process. In cons idering its application to compute physical dot gain for coverage in differ ent areas, it was found to provide good agreement throughout the full range assessed.
