Abstract
For the very first time to our knowledge, guided waves at 854 nm are observ ed in a BaTiO3:Rh waveguide fabricated by the technique of ion-beam implant ation. The photorefractive interaction between two guided modes is demonstr ated and characterized. The experiments revealed that the gain direction is reversed in the guiding layer in comparison with that in the bulk. A maxim um gain of 24 cm(-1) is achieved. (C) 2001 Optical Society of America.
