The software package ModelMaker is designed to build, analyse and optimise
compartmental models of natural and artificial processes. Thus a model cons
ists of three basic components: compartments, flows between them, and varia
ble determining influences between the compartments. The software offers gr
eat flexibility in combining of continuous and discrete components and acti
ons on external events. Briefly discusses basic features of the software, e
xemplifies basic ideas with two simple models of population dynamic and, fi
nally, looks more closely at several real-life models designed in ModelMake
