Phaeohyphomycosis is a clinical entity caused by dematiaceous fungi. We des
cribe a clinical case of phaeohyphomycosis due to Cladosporium cladosporioi
des in a 45-year-old white male, apparently healthy, human immunodeficiency
virus-negative. The patient was treated with terbinafine for 9 months, wit
h regression of a skin lesion. Three months after discontinuation of the th
erapy, there was a clinical and mycological relapse. After progression of t
he disease with inadequate treatment, there was no response to amphotericin
B and flucytosine. Finally, we obtained a clinical response with itraconaz
ole oral solution at 600 mg day(-1) for a 6-month period.
