Abstract
This study has been conducted with a view to examine the level of organochl orine pesticide residues which are Quintozene (PCNB), Dichlorodiphenyl tric hloroethane (p,p'-DDT), Dichlorodiphenyl dichloroethylene (p,p'-DDE) and Di chlorodiphenyl dichloroethane (p,p'-DDD), exiting in butter and cracked whe at sold in Ankara local markets. Thus, the use of some pesticides is restri cted due to the factors such as the environmental pollution and for saving the health of consumers. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyse the results achieved from such a restriction. 100 samples of butter and 50 samples of cracked wheat were obtained from th e different markets in order to be analysed. After extracting the organochl orine pesticides from the samples, the amounts have been determined by gas liquid chromatography-ECD method. The results of this study revealed that the butter sold in Ankara local mar kets did not contain organochlorine pesticide residues while the cracked wh eat contained PCNB and lindane residues although the amounts of residues ha d been found in the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) tolerance limit s.
